PGA TOUR Wives Association and McGladrey Classic

To Co-Host Second Annual Wiffle® Ball Game

–      All Proceeds Benefit Blessings in a Backpack at Altama Elementary –

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga., – Oct. 24, 2013 – On Tuesday, November 5 at 5pm, the PGA TOUR Wives Association and The McGladrey Classic will co-host a  Wiffle® Ball Game at Frederica Academy baseball field. The game will feature PGA TOUR players, their wives and youth from Altama Elementary who earn spots on the team through the school’s Positive Behavior Initiative and Support program.

Already committed to play are Scott and Jennifer Stallings, William and Sarah McGirt, Tommy and Erin Gainey, Jonathan and Amanda Byrd, Mark and Amy Wilson and John and Heather Rollins. Additional commitments are pending.

This family-friendly event benefits Blessings in a Backpack at Altama Elementary School in Brunswick, Georgia. Nationwide approximately 68% of children qualify for the Federal Free and Reduced Lunch Program, according to the nonprofit, New America Foundation.  “While students receive free or reduced cost breakfast and lunch at school, they often do not have enough food at home for the weekend,” said Courtney Stiles, McGladrey Classic Tournament Manager and coordinator of the Wiffle® Ball Classic. “Blessings in a Backpack fills this critical need.”  In 2012, the inaugural Wiffle® Ball event raised $15,000 for the charity.

“The PGA TOUR Wives Association is thrilled to be a partner in the Wiffle® Ball Classic again this year,” said Sarah McGirt, event chair for this year’s tournament. “This is so much fun for our members and husbands; the support of the tournament and the local community in helping to raise money to feed local children makes it a very special event.”

Krispy Kreme is the title sponsor of the 2013 Wiffle® Ball game and Glynn Place Mall is the presenting sponsor.  Additional local event sponsors include Brogens, Festive Occasions, Flexer Enterprises, Headway Outdoors, Kent Plumbing, Island Ace Hardware & Garden Center, Mari Max, Outback Steakhouse, Pet Exchange, Shoreline Marine and Weaver Orthodontic. “Having local and regional businesses get excited about this unique event has been a lot of fun. We appreciate each of our supporters,” said Stiles.

The Wiffle® Ball game is held in conjunction with The McGladrey Classic, one of the first events of the 2013-2014 PGA TOUR season. Attracting players, spectators and volunteers from across the globe, The McGladrey Classic provides a full week of world-class golf and family-friendly events. The tournament is named for title sponsor McGladrey LLP, the nation’s leading provider of assurance, tax and consulting services focused on the middle market.

Admission is free. Everyone is encouraged to bring the family and enjoy a night at the ball park. Concessions will be available for purchase. For more information, go to www.mcgladreyclassic.com.
